A letter penned by Colonel Archibald Gracie from onboard the ill-fated RMS Titanic has come to light, more than a century after the ship sank. Experts have described the letter as ‘prophetic’ for its foreboding insights into the disaster that claimed more than 1,500 lives in 1912.

Colonel Gracie, one of the survivors of the tragedy, detailed his observations and experiences in the letter shortly before the ship struck an iceberg and sank in the North Atlantic. The document offers a rare contemporary perspective that captures the atmosphere and events leading up to the catastrophe.

The letter provides both a personal account and a historical record of the maiden voyage of the Titanic, highlighting Gracie’s awareness of certain vulnerabilities and his vivid descriptions of the ship’s conditions.

Historians regard documents like Gracie’s letter as invaluable for understanding the human stories behind historical events. Its discovery adds a significant artifact to the body of evidence about one of the most infamous maritime disasters in history.

Further details about the letter’s discovery and its future preservation or exhibition have not yet been disclosed.
