Three key members of the University of South Carolina’s football team have officially declared for the 2024 NFL Draft, marking the end of their impactful tenures with the Gamecocks. Defensive backs Nick Emmanwori and Marcellas Dial, along with defensive tackle Tonka Hemingway, are set to pursue professional careers in the National Football League.
Nick Emmanwori, known for his athleticism and playmaking abilities, made a significant impact during his time with South Carolina. Despite being just a sophomore, Emmanwori quickly distinguished himself as a leader in the Gamecocks’ secondary. His speed and versatility often allowed him to make critical plays in both pass coverage and run support.
Marcellas Dial was a reliable presence in the South Carolina secondary. A consistent starter over multiple seasons, Dial contributed both in coverage and on special teams, showcasing his anticipation and tackling skills. His experience and discipline made him one of the team’s more dependable defenders.
Tonka Hemingway, a stalwart on the defensive line, was known for his strength and ability to disrupt opposing offenses. Over the course of his collegiate career, Hemingway accumulated a number of sacks and tackles for loss, playing a pivotal role in the team’s defensive schemes.
All three athletes are preparing for the next stage of their football careers as they enter the NFL Draft evaluation process, which includes events such as the NFL Combine and pro days. Their decisions to forego remaining college eligibility reflect confidence in their readiness for the professional level.
With their departures, South Carolina will look to younger talent to step up and fill the voids left behind as the program continues to build under head coach Shane Beamer.
