President Donald Trump stated during a recent interview that he is willing to consider further delaying the U.S. government’s proposed ban on TikTok. The announcement marks the third such potential delay, as the administration evaluates the national security implications of the popular video-sharing app, which is owned by Chinese company ByteDance.
Trump had previously set deadlines for TikTok to sell its U.S. operations to an American firm or face restrictions, citing concerns about user data privacy and Chinese government access. Deals involving Oracle and Walmart had been in discussion, but final approval and implementation have been mired in legal complications and negotiations.
In remarks quoted by Axios, the President suggested that the administration remains open to extending the process in order to reach an acceptable resolution.
The debate over TikTok has become part of a broader U.S.-China technology conflict, with American officials pushing for tighter controls over foreign-owned digital platforms. TikTok has consistently denied any wrongdoing and asserts that it stores U.S. user data in servers located outside of China to ensure compliance with American regulations.
Further decisions regarding TikTok’s future in the U.S. are expected in the coming weeks as negotiations continue and the legal frameworks evolve.
