A recent industry report has highlighted a significant shift in the way healthcare institutions plan to manage their physical security infrastructure. Nearly seven in 10 healthcare organizations are preparing to transition more of their physical security data to cloud-based platforms over the next 18 months.

This development underscores a growing trend within the sector to embrace cloud technology for improved operational efficiency, scalability, and cyber resilience. The move to cloud-based physical security systems encompasses data from access control systems, video surveillance, and emergency communication tools—critical components in maintaining secure hospital environments.

Genetec, a Canadian provider of unified physical security platforms, has reported increased interest from healthcare institutions in adopting cloud and hybrid security models. According to Mark Feider, National Director of Sales for Healthcare at Genetec, the adoption of cloud solutions offers several benefits for healthcare providers, including enhanced data access across locations, reduced infrastructure costs, and faster incident response times.

The shift is also influenced by heightened concerns over workplace violence in healthcare settings. A flexible, cloud-enabled security framework allows security teams to monitor facilities in real-time, retrieve and analyze historical data swiftly, and coordinate more effectively during emergencies.

In light of these factors, healthcare organizations are seeking robust, scalable solutions that not only address current physical security challenges but also future-proof their systems against evolving threats. As the digital transformation of healthcare security accelerates, the industry is likely to see broader adoption of integrated cloud technologies that support proactive threat detection and comprehensive safety management.
