Swedish home furnishings retailer IKEA is set to expand its presence in the United States by launching six new locations in 2025. The company’s expansion strategy includes three large-format stores and three Plan and Order points, supporting its mission to increase accessibility for American customers.
Large-format stores will offer IKEA’s complete range of products and services, including its iconic showroom experience, self-service warehouse, and integrated food offerings. These full-sized stores are typically located in suburban areas and are designed to cater to customers seeking a comprehensive, in-person shopping experience.
Complementing these flagship locations, IKEA will also introduce three Plan and Order points. These smaller-design studios focus on providing personalized consultation services intended for customers tackling more complex home projects such as kitchen or wardrobe planning. They are usually located in urban settings and do not offer general in-store shopping or carry-out merchandise.
The move reflects IKEA’s ongoing investment in adapting to evolving shopping patterns, with a balanced blend of physical retail expansion and continued emphasis on digital services. In previous statements, the company emphasized meeting customers where they are and making home furnishings more accessible and convenient.
IKEA has not yet disclosed the specific U.S. cities where the new locations will open. However, this expansion aligns with previous commitments to invest significantly in the U.S. market—its second-largest after Germany. Over the past several years, IKEA has opened new city-center stores and emphasized sustainability in design and logistics.
This latest announcement further demonstrates IKEA’s commitment to the U.S. and its strategy of combining physical stores with digital innovations to meet diverse customer needs.
