Veteran Physics Teacher Bob Champlin Retires After Over 30 Years at Lockport Township High School

After dedicating more than 30 years to education, Bob Champlin, a respected physics teacher, science club sponsor, and tennis coach, is retiring from Lockport Township High School. Champlin has been a cornerstone of the school community, contributing not only in the classroom but also in cultivating extracurricular opportunities for students.

Champlin began his career at Lockport Township High School over three decades ago, quickly becoming known for his engaging teaching style and commitment to student success. He played a pivotal role in the development of the school’s science curriculum and inspired countless students to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

In addition to his role in the classroom, Champlin served as the sponsor of the science club, fostering a community of young enthusiasts eager to explore scientific concepts beyond traditional coursework. Under his leadership, the club participated in various regional competitions and science fairs, earning recognition for the school.

Champlin also coached the school’s tennis team, where he stressed both athletic development and sportsmanship. His coaching tenure was marked by several team successes and personal growth stories from student-athletes.

As he reflects on his career, Champlin expresses gratitude for the relationships he’s built and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on his students’ lives. “Teaching at Lockport has been more than a job—it’s been a second home,” Champlin said.

He plans to spend his retirement traveling, spending time with family, and continuing to support education in some capacity.

Champlin’s retirement marks the end of an era at Lockport Township High School, where his legacy will continue to influence both students and faculty for years to come.
