Survey Finds U.S. Advisors Shifting Away from Domestic Equities Amid Bearish Outlook

A growing number of independent financial advisors are shifting their investment strategies away from U.S. equities, according to the 2025 Advisor Sentiment Survey conducted by Interactive Brokers. The survey results reveal that 42% of advisors are increasing clients’ exposure to stocks outside the United States, while 40% are actively reducing their exposure to domestic equities.

This strategic pivot underscores a broader trend of caution among financial professionals. According to the survey, 62% of advisors expressed a more bearish outlook, reflecting concerns over current market conditions and future economic uncertainties. While the survey did not specify the exact reasons behind the sentiment shift, factors such as inflation, interest rate pressures, and geopolitical instability are likely contributing to this cautious stance.

The move toward international diversification suggests advisors are seeking to mitigate risk and capitalize on potential growth in other markets at a time when confidence in the U.S. market appears to be waning. As global markets continue to evolve, financial advisors are evidently reassessing traditional investment allocations in search of more resilient or promising opportunities.

Interactive Brokers’ survey highlights the importance of adaptive strategies in a complex and changing financial environment, and provides insight into how professional advisors are responding to shifting investor sentiment in 2025.
