Saudi Arabia Launches ‘Humain’ to Advance Artificial Intelligence Vision

Saudi Arabia has taken a decisive step toward establishing itself as a global center for artificial intelligence (AI) with the launch of ‘Humain,’ a new technology entity formed under the country’s sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund (PIF). Announced by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the initiative is part of the Kingdom’s broader Vision 2030 strategy aimed at economic diversification and technological innovation.

‘Humain’ is designed to spearhead the development of advanced AI technologies, particularly those aligned with the linguistic and cultural nuances of the Arab world. Central to the new company’s mission will be the creation of Arabic large language models (LLMs), along with significant investments in cutting-edge data centers and cloud computing infrastructure.

The venture underscores Saudi Arabia’s intention to not only adopt existing AI technologies but also to contribute to their global development, thereby boosting national capabilities and creating a robust digital ecosystem. By focusing on Arabic language processing, ‘Humain’ aims to fill a key gap in current AI research and applications, where most models are predominantly trained in English and other Western languages.

The launch of ‘Humain’ also shows the Kingdom’s commitment to collaborating with international tech firms and research institutions while cultivating local talent and fostering domestic innovation. This aligns with previous initiatives under Vision 2030, which target transforming Saudi Arabia into a knowledge-based economy less reliant on oil revenues.

In the long term, ‘Humain’ is expected to facilitate the growth of local AI applications across various sectors including healthcare, finance, education, and public services. Its emphasis on cloud services and data centers will also attract foreign investment and enhance digital infrastructure across the region.

By integrating AI tools built for Arabic-speaking populations and reinforcing the Kingdom’s technical foundations, Saudi Arabia is positioning itself not only as a regional powerhouse but also as a key contributor to the global AI frontier.
