Venture capital firm Paradigm has made a substantial $50 million investment in Nous Research, a decentralized artificial intelligence startup. The investment comes as part of a Series A funding round that several other backers may have participated in, resulting in a post-money valuation of $1 billion for the startup.

Nous Research is focused on leveraging blockchain technology to create decentralized AI systems, which aim to eliminate centralized control over artificial intelligence models. The firm’s approach is viewed as a potential alternative to the dominant models run by tech giants, offering open access and increased transparency in AI development and deployment.

Paradigm’s decision to back Nous Research aligns with its broader investment strategy supporting innovation at the frontier of emerging technologies. With this new funding, Nous Research plans to accelerate development of its decentralized infrastructure and expand its team and research capabilities.

The funding round underscores growing investor interest in decentralized AI as a counterbalance to centralized machine learning solutions, especially amid heightened discussions on ethical AI deployment and data ownership.
