Midea Recalls U-Shaped Window Air Conditioners Over Mold Concerns

Midea is recalling its U Window and U+ Window Air Conditioners amid concerns over water pooling inside the units, which can lead to mold growth and associated health risks. The recall affects units primarily sold across the United States and comes following reports that moisture accumulation within the air conditioners may contribute to mold development over time.

According to the manufacturer, water trapped in certain conditions can accumulate in the base of the air conditioning units without proper drainage. This creates an environment conducive to mold growth, which may trigger allergic reactions or respiratory issues, particularly in individuals with pre-existing health conditions.

Consumers are advised to stop using the affected units immediately and to check the serial numbers on their products to determine if their air conditioner is impacted by the recall. Midea has set up a dedicated website and customer service hotline to assist in identifying affected models and to offer remedies, including professional cleaning, repair, or replacement options.

The U and U+ series are among Midea’s more popular energy-efficient window AC units, noted for their quiet operation and smart technology integration. The company stated it is actively working to address the issue and implementing product improvements to eliminate the risk of future mold growth.

Individuals experiencing health symptoms potentially related to mold exposure from these devices are encouraged to consult a medical professional. Meanwhile, Midea urges consumers to participate in the recall program for their health and safety.

For more information, customers can contact Midea’s customer service or visit the recall section on the official Midea website.
