FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) has announced a major investment in the state’s healthcare workforce, awarding $4.3 million to 28 postsecondary healthcare programs across the Commonwealth. The funding will provide training scholarships for more than 200 students pursuing careers in the healthcare sector.
This initiative is part of the state’s broader efforts to address the growing demand for healthcare professionals in both urban and rural areas. The scholarships aim to support students in completing training and certification programs that are critical to entering the healthcare field.
“This investment is a direct response to Kentucky’s workforce needs, especially in healthcare, where shortages have become increasingly severe,” said a CPE spokesperson. “By lowering the financial barriers to training, we can help more individuals enter the profession and improve healthcare access across the state.”
The funding will be distributed among a diverse range of healthcare-related training programs, including nursing, allied health, and technical healthcare certifications offered by community colleges and universities.
This initiative aligns with Kentucky’s broader strategy to enhance postsecondary education access and boost economic development by equipping residents with in-demand skills. In recent years, the state has prioritized workforce development programs through partnerships with educational institutions and private sector employers.
CPE officials noted that the selection of recipients was based on program effectiveness, workforce alignment, and geographic need. The scholarships are expected to cover essential costs including tuition, lab fees, textbooks, and other materials necessary for student success.
