Aspiring nurses, doctors, and healthcare professionals took their first steps toward future careers this week during Indiana University Fort Wayne’s Kids College program. Aimed at cultivating early interest in the medical field, the program offers children the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning experiences that simulate real-world healthcare environments.

Throughout the week, participants explored various areas of the healthcare system, including nursing, medical diagnostics, emergency response, and more. Educators and healthcare practitioners worked directly with the students, introducing them to essential skills and tools used in everyday clinical practices.

The Kids College is part of IU Fort Wayne’s broader initiative to address workforce shortages in healthcare by encouraging younger generations to pursue careers in this critical sector. By offering an immersive educational experience, the university hopes to ignite passion and curiosity about medicine and health sciences among elementary and middle school students.

Program organizers emphasized the importance of early exposure to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, particularly as it applies to vital industries like healthcare. Activities throughout the week were designed not only to be educational but also to build confidence and inspire long-term academic and professional goals in children.

Families and participants expressed enthusiasm for the program, noting the unique opportunity it presents to explore future career possibilities in a supportive and enriching environment.

IU Fort Wayne plans to continue offering the Kids College annually, with the goal of expanding its reach and impact throughout the region in the years to come.
