Hartford HealthCare, in partnership with health technology company OnMed, has unveiled the nation’s first CareStation at Bradley International Airport in Connecticut. Located in Terminal A, the OnMed CareStation offers travelers on-demand virtual healthcare services, enhancing medical access in transit hubs.
The OnMed CareStation resembles a high-tech medical kiosk and allows patients to virtually consult with a licensed clinician through a secure, real-time connection. The telemedicine booth is equipped with biometric scanners, thermal imaging, and other tools capable of measuring vital signs and performing remote diagnostic assessments in a private and sanitized environment.
Travelers can use the CareStation to receive diagnoses and treatment plans for a range of minor illnesses and conditions, including cold and flu symptoms, skin irritations, seasonal allergies, and more. It also enables prescriptions to be sent digitally to a pharmacy of the user’s choice.
“Airports are high-traffic locations where access to quick and reliable healthcare isn’t readily available. By bringing CareStations to such places, we fill a crucial healthcare gap,” said a representative of Hartford HealthCare.
This initiative is part of a broader movement to expand telehealth access and improve healthcare delivery in unconventional yet high-need environments. The launch follows an increasing demand for on-the-go medical services, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic which significantly accelerated telehealth trends.
Bradley International Airport is among the first travel hubs in the country to offer such technology. The CareStation is available to all passengers and airport staff as part of ongoing efforts to promote a healthier and safer travel experience.
Officials from both Hartford HealthCare and OnMed expressed interest in expanding the program to additional transportation venues and public locations across the United States pending its success at Bradley International Airport.
