Google to End Support for First and Second Generation Nest Devices in October

Google revealed this week that it plans to discontinue support and software updates for its first and second generation Nest devices, effective October 25, 2025. The decision affects early Nest products, which include the original Nest Learning Thermostat models that helped popularize smart home technology.

Starting on the announcement date, these Nest devices will no longer receive software updates, including critical security patches. Google recommends that users upgrade to newer models to ensure continued access to the latest features and security improvements.

This move aligns with broader industry trends, as companies phase out older hardware to focus on advancing newer technologies. Google has stated that while these Nest devices will continue to function after support ends, users may experience degraded performance over time.

More specific details about affected products and available upgrade options are expected to be provided by Google closer to the discontinuation date.
