In a significant effort to address healthcare accessibility, Ferris State University hosted a Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinic last month, delivering an estimated $250,000 worth of free medical, dental, and vision care to residents in the surrounding area. The event brought critical health services to individuals and families who might otherwise face financial or logistical barriers to care.
Remote Area Medical, a nonprofit organization that provides free healthcare services to underserved and uninsured populations, set up a temporary clinic on the Ferris State campus. Over the course of the event, volunteers including licensed medical professionals, students from Ferris State’s health programs, and community members worked together to ensure efficient and comprehensive care.
The clinic offered services such as dental cleanings and extractions, eye exams with prescription glasses provided on-site, general medical checkups, and women’s health services. The collaborative initiative served hundreds of patients, many of whom had gone months or years without access to regular healthcare.
