On Friday, April 4, Yeshiva University’s Weissberg Commons was transformed into a lively educational space as students from P.S. 189 attended an interactive science event. The gathering, filled with laughter and enthusiastic voices, was part of an outreach initiative aimed at engaging young learners with STEM subjects in a hands-on environment.
The event was hosted by the START Science program, a student-led organization at YU that partners with local public schools to promote interest in science through demonstrations, experiments, and mentorship. YU students guided small groups of P.S. 189 elementary students through a series of educational and engaging activities designed to spark curiosity and understanding of scientific principles.
Participants explored topics such as chemical reactions, magnetism, and environmental science through fun, accessible experiments. The young visitors not only gained exposure to science but also interacted with YU student volunteers, who served as both teachers and role models throughout the afternoon.
The event showcased Yeshiva University’s commitment to community engagement and educational outreach, providing an inspiring experience for both the visiting children and the student volunteers who helped organize and run the program.
