In an effort to improve access to specialized healthcare services in the Coachella Valley, the Desert Healthcare District & Foundation has awarded a $236,555 grant to Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest.

The grant will primarily support the salary of the organization’s first full-time physician stationed in the Coachella Valley, covering approximately 50 percent of the position’s cost. This strategic funding initiative aims to extend Planned Parenthood’s capacity to deliver specialty care services to underserved communities within the region.

By stationing a dedicated physician locally, the organization can better meet growing healthcare needs and reduce barriers such as travel time and limited appointment availability for residents seeking essential medical services. The new physician role is expected to enhance the scope and quality of care offered, aligning with the healthcare district’s long-term goal of improving community health outcomes across the region.

The Desert Healthcare District & Foundation continues to invest in programs and partnerships designed to close gaps in healthcare access, particularly for vulnerable populations. This latest initiative underscores the District’s ongoing commitment to fostering a healthier Coachella Valley through strategic support of local health providers.

Further details, including the timeline for the physician’s start date and areas of specialization, are expected to be announced by Planned Parenthood in the coming weeks.
