To create a more familiar and comforting environment for young patients, Cooper University Hospital hosted its beloved ‘Teddy Bears to the Rescue’ event, designed to help children overcome fear and anxiety about doctor visits and hospital stays.
At the event, children were invited to bring their favorite stuffed animals—mostly teddy bears—and take on the role of a caregiver. In interactive stations, participants guided their toys through various simulated medical procedures such as check-ups, X-rays, and even mock surgeries under the supervision of medical professionals and volunteers.
The goal of the event is to promote health awareness in a fun, educational setting while demystifying the hospital experience. Medical staff explained processes in child-friendly terms and answered health-related questions along the way, helping kids feel empowered and more in control.
Parents praised the initiative for providing a safe space where children could express their concerns and develop a sense of confidence around healthcare professionals. Organizers at Cooper Hospital emphasized the importance of early exposure to routine medical care, noting that such activities can lead to healthier attitudes toward healthcare as children grow older.
Cooper Hospital plans to continue the program annually as part of its broader community outreach and education efforts to support children’s physical and emotional well-being.
