Citi Downgrades China Feihe Amid Concerns Over Weaker Profit Outlook

Citigroup has downgraded its stock rating for China Feihe Ltd., citing concerns over a deteriorating profit outlook for the Chinese dairy producer. The downgrade comes amid growing scrutiny of the company’s financial prospects as it navigates a slower market recovery and intensifying competition within the infant milk formula sector.

In a note issued to investors, Citi analysts indicated that revised earnings forecasts and margin pressures have prompted the firm to reassess China Feihe’s rating. The investment bank specifically pointed to challenges in sustaining premium product sales and potential pricing pressures as key factors that could erode profitability in the near term.

China Feihe, one of China’s leading producers of infant formula and dairy products, has previously enjoyed strong market positioning. However, shifts in consumer preferences, demographic headwinds—such as a declining birth rate in China—and rising input costs have put pressure on the company’s performance metrics.

Citi’s downgrade reflects broader concerns in the Chinese dairy market, where an aging population and increasingly health-conscious consumers are reshaping industry dynamics. The bank also noted that recovery efforts post-pandemic have been uneven, further affecting companies like China Feihe that depend heavily on domestic consumption trends.

Investors and analysts alike will be closely watching the company’s upcoming financial results and strategic responses as it attempts to navigate this challenging operating environment.
