Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has announced her office’s participation in a federal lawsuit aimed at preventing the loss of health care coverage for more than a million Americans. The legal effort stems from concerns that recent administrative changes or policy actions could result in a significant number of people being denied access to Medicaid and other public health insurance programs.

By joining the lawsuit, Mayes aligns Arizona with other states challenging federal measures that they argue could create barriers to continued coverage for vulnerable populations, including low-income families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. The suit emphasizes the importance of maintaining stability within the health care system, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, during which millions relied on expanded Medicaid benefits.

“Losing health care coverage for any reason can be devastating, but to have millions potentially impacted by avoidable policy decisions is simply unacceptable,” said Mayes in a public statement. She stressed that the lawsuit is necessary to ensure that Arizona residents do not face disruption in critical medical services.

Legal experts suggest that the case could set key precedents regarding federal and state responsibilities in managing health care access. Meanwhile, public health advocates have expressed support for the lawsuit, noting that preserving continuous coverage is essential for the well-being of many Americans.

More details about the specific grounds of the lawsuit and the timeline for court proceedings are expected to be released in the coming weeks as the case moves forward through the judicial system.
