Tesla Begins Internal Testing of Autonomous Ride-Hail Service Ahead of Robotaxi Launch

Tesla has initiated internal testing of its autonomous ride-hailing service among employees in Austin, Texas, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The move is part of the company’s preparations for the official launch of its long-anticipated robotaxi service.

The testing phase allows the company to gather operational data and address any necessary adjustments before a broader public rollout. While details regarding the timeline and features of the commercial launch remain limited, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has previously signaled that a robotaxi reveal is slated for this year.

The autonomous ride-hail service is expected to leverage Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology, which the company claims can navigate vehicles without human intervention. However, FSD has drawn scrutiny over safety concerns and has not yet received full regulatory approval for widespread deployment as a fully autonomous solution.

If successful, the robotaxi service could mark a significant step for Tesla in the burgeoning autonomous mobility market, intensifying competition with other players such as Waymo, Cruise, and Uber, who are also developing similar technologies and services.

Further details about the public testing phase and official launch date are expected to be announced in the coming months.
