Spellbook CEO Offers Guidance for Lawyers on Responsible AI Use

Scott Stevenson, CEO of legal technology firm Spellbook, emphasized the importance of responsible integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into legal work during a recent discussion. He encouraged attorneys to approach the evaluation of AI tools with the same level of diligence and scrutiny that they bring to their legal practice.

Stevenson noted that while AI tools can offer significant benefits in terms of efficiency and insight, legal professionals must be cautious and methodical in adopting such technologies. He stressed that proper vetting involves understanding the tool’s capabilities, limitations, and impact on client outcomes.

“Attorneys are trained to be diligent and skeptical, which makes them well-suited to evaluate new technologies like AI,” said Stevenson. “That same thoroughness should be applied when considering how to use these tools in their daily practice.”

Spellbook, his company, focuses on integrating AI to assist lawyers with drafting contracts and managing documents, aiming to enhance productivity without compromising accuracy. As more legal professionals explore AI solutions, industry leaders like Stevenson continue to advocate for informed and ethical adoption practices.
